Cookie policy

This site uses no cookies. None: neither its own nor third-party ones. It stores nothing in your browser.

What was checked

The server's responses contain no header that sets a cookie, and the pages write nothing into the browser's local storage. You can check it yourself in your browser's developer tools, under Storage.

Why you see no banner

The guidelines issued by the Italian Data Protection Authority on 10 June 2021 require a banner and consent for cookies that are not technical, and more broadly for anything that stores or reads something on your device. Here nothing is stored and nothing is read: there are no cookies, local storage is not used, and the visit measurement described below is no exception. Where there is nothing to consent to, a notice is enough. A banner asking permission for something that does not exist would protect nobody: it would only be one more obstacle.

Visits are counted, and not with cookies

Cloudflare, which hosts the site, measures its visits with its own Web Analytics tool. As it delivers the page it adds a call to a small program, static.cloudflareinsights.com/beacon.min.js: it is the only thing your browser downloads from an address other than this site. The measurements go back to bybucolo.com/cdn-cgi/rum, which is here.

That program writes nothing into your browser: neither cookies nor local storage. It does not recognise you by IP address or browser type and does not follow you from one site to another. It serves to know how many pages are opened, from which country, on what kind of device and how fast they load. The result is aggregate numbers.

If you would rather not be counted, any extension that blocks outside scripts will do, or block that domain: the site keeps working exactly the same. The detail, the legal bases and the retention periods are in section 3 of the privacy policy.

What happens anyway when you open a page

Your browser asks the server for the page, the fonts and the images. In that exchange the server sees your IP address: unavoidable, needed to deliver the answer to you, and not a cookie. The privacy policy covers that data.

Cloudflare, which hosts the site, keeps a standard browser feature called Network Error Logging switched on: if a connection fails, the browser may send Cloudflare a technical report of that failure. It concerns errors, not successful visits, and it does not identify you.

The fonts are hosted here

Noto Serif and Onest are downloaded from this domain, not from Google Fonts or any other outside service. Getting the fonts contacts no third party: that is why they weigh a few tens of kilobytes more, and it is a price worth paying.

The links that lead away

The icons at the foot of the page lead to Instagram, Behance and Telegram. Those sites use their own cookies and their own notices apply there. The connection is made only if you click it: as long as you stay here, you do not contact them.

If this changes one day

If anything that stores or reads data on your device is added — cookies, local storage, identifiers — a banner asking for consent will appear and this page will be rewritten before it goes live. Consent will be asked beforehand, not afterwards. That is the rule followed for the measurement above too: the page first, then the switch.
